TREES

The oak stood as a trusty sentinel ever present in my sight from the dining room window of our childhood home. Its girth was larger than one’s arms could encircle. Limbs and leaves reaching into the sky provided shelter from the elements, critical oxygen to breathe and abundant joy in the swing attached to one of its sturdiest branches. From that perch one could fly high into the air, over the hill and toward the lake while being securely held by that strong arm. The oak was part of our family and remains a fond relic of my childhood. But it also placed an indelible mark on my heart and memory. I continue to find tranquility and comfort when surrounded by the presence of trees. I admire their form, the shape of their distinctive leaves, glorious fall colors, the texture of their bark and the life they support, even after they have fallen into the forest floor. As a painter I continue to find trees- oaks, birches, pines, poplar, maples-you name it- a source of inspiration. My new featured art is a dedication to trees and our relationship to them. May you enjoy the inspiration in the paintings as much as I enjoyed creating them.
